HJR 55 -- Voluntary Prayer in Schools Co-Sponsors: Bearden, Mayer, Phillips, Cooper, Berkstresser, Myers, Bartle, Reinhart This proposed constitutional amendment adds a prohibition on establishing an official religion and requires that the right to pray and express one's religious beliefs on public property not be infringed. The proposed amendment also permits public school pupils to pray privately, to meet voluntarily to pray on school premises, and to pray at school-related events, subject to the rules of order that govern any student's speech.Copyright (c) Missouri House of Representatives
