AN ACT

To amend chapter 192, RSMo, by adding thereto one new section relating to prostate cancer awareness.




Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the state of Missouri, as follows:

Section A. Chapter 192, RSMo, is amended by adding thereto one new section, to be known as section 192.074, to read as follows:

192.074. 1. The bureau of cancer control in the division of chronic disease prevention and health promotion in the department of health and senior services, in conjunction with other relevant community-based organizations, shall develop and provide culturally relevant educational materials to local health departments on prostate cancer to increase awareness and the need for early detection, prevention, and monitoring of prostate cancer. Such educational materials shall include information on prostate cancer screening coverage with an emphasis on adult men in high-risk areas of the state. Local health departments shall:

(1) Work with community partners to identify the most effective mediums through which to engage African-American men who have the highest incidence of prostate cancer and adult men in high-risk populations;

(2) Ensure that materials are reaching and engaging all men in high-risk populations; and

(3) Conduct prostate cancer education and outreach projects targeting adult men in the African-American community and adult men in high-risk populations.

2. To implement the provisions of subsection 1 of this section, the bureau of cancer control, in conjunction with other relevant community-based organizations, shall develop culturally relevant educational materials that increase awareness of prostate cancer and discuss the importance of early detection, prevention, and monitoring prostate cancer, and strongly recommend that adult men receive complete prostate cancer screenings in accordance with the most recent American Cancer Society guidelines.

3. To encourage prostate cancer prevention, such educational materials shall be distributed to adult men through clinics, hospitals, ambulatory surgical centers, and city and county health units.
