Rep. Sharon
Sanders Brooks, a Democrat, represents part of Jackson County (District 37) in
the Missouri House of Representatives.
Elected to
the House in a special election held in April 2000, Rep. Sanders Brooks is an
historical consultant. Formerly she
was a civil rights investigator, investigating employment and fair housing
discrimination complaints in Kansas City.
She was also a journalist in the Kansas City area.
Rep. Sanders
Brooks is a member of the Association for the Study of Afro-American Life and
History, Inc. (ASALH), Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., the National Political
Congress of Black Women, the Missouri Historical Society, the Missouri Women's
Political Caucus, N.A.A.C.P., and the National Black Caucus of State
Legislators. She is a volunteer for
the 18th & Vine Museums and attends St. James United Methodist
Church.
A graduate
of Francis L. Cardozo High School in Washington D.C., Rep. Sanders Brooks
attended Bennett College in Greensboro, N.C. and received a bachelor of arts
degree in journalism from The American University in Washington, D.C., in
1983.

City.
