Summary of the Committee Version of the Bill

HCS HJR 14 -- QUALIFICATIONS OF LEGISLATORS

SPONSOR:  May (Yates)

COMMITTEE ACTION:  Voted "do pass" by the Committee on Elections
by a vote of 12 to 0.

This proposed constitutional amendment lowers the minimum age for
election to the House of Representatives from 24 to 22 and lowers
the minimum age for election to the Senate from 30 to 25.

FISCAL NOTE:  Not available at time of printing.

PROPONENTS:  Supporters say that with term limits there needs to
be a larger pool of prospective legislators.

Testifying for the bill were Representative Yates; and Associated
Students of the University of Missouri.

OPPONENTS:  There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
