HB 264 -- Nurse Staffing Plans

This bill contains provisions pertaining to the establishment of
nurse staffing plans for licensed hospitals.

The bill:

(1)  Contains various definitions including "acuity system,"
"staffing plan," "direct care nursing staff," and "unforeseeable
emergent circumstances";

(2)  Requires licensed hospitals to attempt to fill staffing
requirements in order to address staff shortages before requiring
a registered nurse or unlicensed assistive personnel to work
overtime; and

(3)  Contains provisions pertaining to the scheduling of nursing
shifts with certain exceptions, which include a declared national
or state emergency.
