Summary of the Introduced Bill

HB 522 -- Naturopathic Physicians

Co-Sponsors:  Dixon, Walker, Kingery, Wright, Wallace

This bill provides for the registration and licensure of doctors
of naturopathic medicine.  The bill:

(1)  Defines the terms related to naturopathic medicine;

(2)  Prohibits the practice of naturopathic medicine without
being licensed;

(3)  Creates the Advisory Commission for Naturopathic Medicine;

(4)  Describes the appointment, duties, and powers of the
commission;

(5)  Gives the State Board of Registration for the Healing Arts
the authority to adopt rules, give exams, collect fees, and
employ personnel for the operation of the commission;

(6)  Requires all persons wishing to practice as naturopathic
physicians to be examined by the board as to their fitness to
practice;

(7)  Provides licensing exemptions to naturopathic physicians who
are licensed to practice in another state;

(8)  Establishes certain criteria which must be met prior to
making application with the board for licensure;

(9)  Exempts licensed health care professionals acting within the
scope of their profession;

(10)  Requires continuing education as a condition for license
renewal;

(11)  Gives the board authority to refuse to issue, suspend, and
revoke licenses;

(12)  Requires the board to publish a quarterly list of licensees
and disciplinary reports; and

(13)  Allows the board to bring disciplinary action against
licensees before the Administrative Hearing Commission.
