Summary of the Committee Version of the Bill

HCS HB 1404 -- GUARDIANS AD LITEM

SPONSOR: Byrd (Bishop)

COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass" by the Committee on Judiciary
by a vote of 17 to 0.

Currently, the court in a child custody or dissolution proceeding
may award the guardian ad litem's fees as a judgment by any party
to the proceedings or by public funds. This substitute allows
the court to issue a direct payment order to the parties for the
guardian ad litem's fees.

FISCAL NOTE: Not available at time of printing.

PROPONENTS: Supporters say that the bill provides an alternative
method for guardians ad litem to collect fees.

Testifying for the bill was Representative Bishop.

OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
