HB 1634 -- MILITARY DISCHARGE RECORDS

COMMITTEE ACTION:  Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee on
Local Government by a vote of 17 to 0.

This bill provides that all images of military discharge records
older than 75 years are deemed principally of historical or
genealogical interest and will be open records.

FISCAL NOTE:  No impact on state funds in FY 2005, FY 2006, and
FY 2007.

PROPONENTS:  Supporters say that the bill will make it easier for
researchers and historians to access these records.

Testifying for the bill were Representative Behnen; Office of
Secretary of State; and Missouri Veterans Commission.

OPPONENTS:  There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
