HB 824 -- TOURISM TAX
SPONSOR:  Seigfreid
COMMITTEE ACTION:  Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee on
Local Government by a vote of 16 to 0.
This bill allows the City of Concordia to impose a tourism tax on
all hotel and motel rooms within the city.  The tax cannot exceed
5% per room per night, and all proceeds from the tax must be used
to promote tourism.
FISCAL NOTE:  No impact on state funds in FY 2005, FY 2006, and
FY 2007.
PROPONENTS:  Supporters say that the bill is necessary for the
city to promote itself.
Testifying for the bill was Representative Seigfreid.
OPPONENTS:  There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
