Summary of the Committee Version of the Bill

HB 881 -- TAXATION OF MILITARY PERSONNEL

SPONSOR:  Bruns

COMMITTEE ACTION:  Voted "do pass" by the Committee on Tax Policy
by a vote of 17 to 0.

This bill allows as a deduction from state individual income tax
any income received for military service in a combat zone, as
defined in the bill.  The deduction will apply to all taxable
years beginning on or after January 1, 2004.

FISCAL NOTE:  Estimated Cost on General Revenue Fund of Unknown
in FY 2005, FY 2006, and FY 2007.  No impact on Other State Funds
in FY 2005, FY 2006, and FY 2007.

PROPONENTS:  Supporters say that the bill will have a personal
positive impact on military families by providing an exemption
from income tax while serving in a combat zone.

Testifying for the bill were Representative Bruns; Tawyna Morrow;
and Missouri National Guard.

OPPONENTS:  There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
