HB 1200 -- Seat Belts
Sponsor: Schaaf
This bill makes changes to the laws regarding seat belts.
Currently, law enforcement officers cannot stop, inspect, or
detain any person solely because he or she fails to wear a
properly adjusted and fastened seat belt. The bill authorizes
law enforcement officers to enforce the wearing of seat belts if
a violation is clearly visible to the officer without stopping a
person's vehicle.
Drivers who violate the bill can be assessed a fine of $25.
Currently, the fine cannot exceed $10.
