Summary of the Introduced Bill

HB 1281 -- School Bus Transportation Safety

Sponsor: Zweifel

This bill requires the State Board of Education to audit school
district transportation contracts. School districts must consult
the sex offender registration list before selecting bus stops and
have manifests with student information for bus drivers so
nonstudents can be denied access to buses. Districts must also
give transportation program and safety information to students'
parents. Districts must send current bus driver and applicant
driver fingerprints for a Missouri criminal records review and a
national criminal record review, reporting the results to
any private bus company, if applicable. Applicants and current
drivers may be reimbursed for the cost of the background check.
The bill also adds the frame of the bus to the list of items for
State Highway Patrol bus safety inspection.
