HB 1314 -- Teacher Education Scholarships

Currently, one-year nonrenewable scholarships of $1,000 are
available for students who commit to pursuing a teaching
certificate.  This bill makes the scholarships renewable and
raises the amount to $3,000, with a cap of $15,000.  The bill
also makes the scholarships available to substitute teachers or
paraprofessionals who are recommended by their districts for
participation.  A grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale is
required to keep the scholarship or to qualify for it if the
applicant has attended college for more than two semesters.  A
requirement for matching scholarship funds from the college is
removed.
