Summary of the Introduced Bill

HB 968 -- Temporary Assistance for Needy Families

Sponsor: Phillips

This bill increases by 5% the temporary assistance for needy
families (TANF) benefit received on behalf of a child whose
biological parents are married to each other and living together
for any portion of the five-year eligibility period that the
biological parents are married. In situations where a biological
parent is living with, but is not married to, an intimate
partner, the intimate partner's income and resources must be
included when determining eligibility for TANF benefits. If the
biological parent is married to someone who is not the biological
parent of the children receiving benefits, the stepparent's
income and resources cannot be included when determining
eligibility for TANF benefits.
