JOINT RESOLUTION

Submitting to the qualified voters of Missouri an amendment repealing sections 4 and 6 of article III of the Constitution of Missouri, and adopting two new sections in lieu thereof relating to minimum age requirements for members of the general assembly.





Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring therein:


            That at the next general election to be held in the state of Missouri, on Tuesday next following the first Monday in November, 2004, or at a special election to be called by the governor for that purpose, there is hereby submitted to the qualified voters of this state, for adoption or rejection, the following amendment to article III of the Constitution of the state of Missouri:

            Section A. Sections 4 and 6, article III, Constitution of Missouri, is repealed and two new sections adopted in lieu thereof, to be known as sections 4 and 6, to read as follows:

            Section 4.  Each representative shall be [twenty-four] twenty-one years of age, and next before the day of his election shall have been a qualified voter for two years and a resident of the county or district which he is chosen to represent for one year, if such county or district shall have been so long established, and if not, then of the county or district from which the same shall have been taken.

            Section 6.  Each senator shall be [thirty] twenty-five years of age, and next before the day of his election shall have been a qualified voter of the state for three years and a resident of the district which he is chosen to represent for one year, if such district shall have been so long established, and if not, then of the district or districts from which the same shall have been taken.
