JOINT RESOLUTION
Submitting to the qualified voters of Missouri, an amendment to article I of the Constitution of Missouri, and adopting one new section relating to the prohibition of same-sex marriage.
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring therein:
That at the next general election to be held in the state of Missouri, on Tuesday next following the first Monday in November, 2004, or at a special election to be called by the governor for that purpose, there is hereby submitted to the qualified voters of this state, for adoption or rejection, the following amendment to article I of the Constitution of the state of Missouri:
Section A. Article I, Constitution of Missouri, is amended by adding thereto one new section, to be known as section 33, to read as follows:
Section 33. Civil marriage in this state shall consist only of the union of one man and one woman. In this state no effect shall be given to any public act, record, or judicial proceeding of any other state, territory, or possession of the United States, Indian tribe, or foreign nation, respecting a relationship of any union other than a union of one man and one woman that is treated as a marriage under the laws of such other jurisdiction, or a right or claim arising from such a relationship.
