HB 832 -- RESTRICTIVE COVENANTS SPONSOR: Brooks COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass" by the Special Committee on Urban Issues by a vote of 11 to 0. This bill provides that any restrictive real estate covenant included in an association's governing document will be removed by the board of directors of that association. If the association fails to remove a restrictive covenant within 30 days of receiving a written request to do so, injunctive relief may be granted to any individual or organization requesting the removal. FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds in FY 2006, FY 2007, and FY 2008. PROPONENTS: Supporters say that certain restrictive covenants have been a problem for various groups of people when obtaining housing in certain areas.
