Summary of the Introduced Bill

HB 329 -- Compulsory School Attendance

Sponsor: Baker (123)

This bill raises from 16 to 18 the age for leaving school at the
option of a student's parent or guardian. All parents or
guardians must agree in writing when children are excused from
school for work or are dropped from school rolls. A religious
exemption to compulsory school attendance is added. The bill
clarifies that students who have successfully completed all
elementary and secondary grade levels before the age of 18 are
exempt from the compulsory school age. The provisions concerning
work certificates and the working hours and days of children are
amended to reflect the higher age.
