Summary of the Introduced Bill

HB 36 -- Midwives

Sponsor: Davis

This bill specifies that nothing may prohibit a woman from giving
birth in the setting and with the caregiver of her choice. These
caregivers may not be subject to prosecution under state law if
they exercise a reasonable degree of care.

Engaging in the practice of midwifery is removed from the list of
acts that constitute the unlawful practice of medicine. The bill
also repeals provisions that prohibit individuals licensed as
midwives from practicing medicine.
