HB 499 -- Stealing of Leased Property
Sponsor: Pratt
This bill creates the crime of stealing leased property. The
crime is committed when a person leases personal property valued
at more than $100 via a written contract and intentionally does
not return the property at the end of the lease term or refuses
to pay the charges agreed upon in the contract. Providing a
false name, address, or place of employment when obtaining the
property may be used as evidence of an intent to steal the
property. The crime is a class A misdemeanor, unless the
property is valued at more than $1,000, in which case it is a
class D felony.
