Summary of the Introduced Bill

HB 749 -- School Zones

Sponsor: Dixon

This bill allows Greene County if they elect to establish a
school zone designation for streets surrounding a school to erect
signs on or around the school zone which are clearly visible from
the highway and clearly indicate the boundaries of the school
zone and the hours of enforcement. These signs will state the
following: "Warning: $250 fine for traffic violations in this
school zone."

Any person found guilty of a moving violation on the first
conviction will be assessed a fine of $35 in addition to any
other fine authorized by law if the offense occurred within a
school zone during the hours of enforcement and $100 on a second
or subsequent conviction. Persons guilty of any speeding
violation will be subject to a $250 fine for a first conviction
and a $350 fine on any subsequent conviction.

The bill contains an emergency clause.
