HB 871 -- Emergency Contraception

This bill establishes the Woman's Right to Know Act.  The
Division of Maternal, Child, and Family Health in the Department
of Health and Senior Services is required to raise public
awareness by informing hospitals, health providers, pharmacists,
and the community about the existence and availability of
emergency contraception.  The division is  required to promote
appropriate counseling and referrals for emergency birth control
approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration.

The division is also required to develop and distribute
information that stresses the availability of emergency birth
control and its use, safety, and effectiveness if taken as soon
as possible after intercourse.  The information provided is
required to emphasize that emergency contraception is a method of
pregnancy prevention that cannot harm or terminate an established
pregnancy.
