Summary of the Introduced Bill

HB 894 -- Health Care Directives

Sponsor: Sater

This bill requires the Department of Health and Senior Services,
beginning January 1, 2006, to make available to the Department of
Revenue an informational booklet on the importance of designating
a health care proxy or executing a health care directive. The
information is to be available to anyone over 18 years of age
applying or renewing their license or seeking an instructional
permit.

A licensed driver can indicate on their license the existence of
a health care proxy or the execution of a health care directive,
but is not required to designate a proxy or execute a health care
directive at the time of applying. At any time, a valid proxy or
directive may be modified or revoked.

The Department of Revenue will not provide legal advice or
services to an applicant regarding a health care proxy or
directive.
