Summary of the Introduced Bill

HB 924 -- Liability for School Employees and Volunteers

Sponsor: Wallace

This bill expands the existing liability protection for teachers
and other school personnel from matters of school discipline to
include other issues handled in conformity with the established
policies of the school board. The bill exempts employees who are
not qualified to administer medication from liability for
refusing to administer it and permits school districts to require
that an employee obtain the necessary training. Qualified
employees are also exempted from liability for administering
medicine in good faith and according to standard medical
practice, and trained employees are exempted from liability for
administering cardiopulmonary resuscitation or other lifesaving
measures in good faith. Persons administering defibrillators are
also immune from liability under certain conditions.
