Summary of the Introduced Bill

HB 937 -- Bullying in Schools

Sponsor: Kraus

This bill requires school districts to develop a policy by
September 1, 2006, to prevent harassment, intimidation, and
bullying on school property, school buses, and at school
functions. The policy must cover the consequences and remedial
action for bullying, procedures for reporting and investigating
it, and the involvement of parents of students involved in the
incident. The bill prohibits retaliation and requires reporting
of incidents for which employees, students, and volunteers are
exempted from liability under certain conditions. The Department
of Elementary and Secondary Education will develop a model policy
by December 1, 2005.
