HB 942 -- School Nutrition Sponsor: Baker (25) By January 1, 2006, each school district must develop a written policy for food choices in its schools. The policy must: (1) Provide for the availability of foods that have more than minimal nutritive value; (2) Make efforts to link food choices at the school to the nutrition-related material in the Show-Me Standards; (3) Establish nutritional guidelines for various food-service situations such as the lunch program, vending machines, concession stands, fund raising, and parties; (4) Specify when food and beverages may be sold from vending machines; (5) Ensure that business sponsorships meet the school's needs, rather than serve the commercial motives of the business, and are evaluated periodically; and (6) Prohibit the vending of carbonated beverages from machines in contracts entered into after January 1, 2006.Copyright (c) Missouri House of Representatives
