HB 1637 -- Possession of Firearms

Sponsor:  Parker

This bill allows a law enforcement officer to remove any firearm
that is found at the scene of an alleged act of domestic
violence.  Law enforcement officers must inform the firearm owner
of the process for retaking possession of the firearm.  Sheriffs
are required to deny or revoke a permit to acquire or purchase a
concealable weapon to any applicant who has been convicted of
domestic assault or who is the subject of an order of protection.

The bill prohibits any person from shipping, transporting,
possessing, or receiving any firearm or ammunition from an
individual who is subject to a court order of protection or has
been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence.
