HB 1686 -- Pit Bull Ownership

Beginning January 1, 2007, this bill requires that any owner of a
pit bull apply for a state pit bull resident owner permit for
each pit bull owned.  Pit bull owners are required to:

(1)  Own no more than two pit bulls;

(2)  Apply for a state permit within 10 days of acquiring a pit
bull;

(3)  Submit a permit fee of $500;

(4)  Submit proof that the pit bull has been spayed or neutered;
and

(5)  Leash and muzzle pit bulls while on public or private
property not wholly owned by the pit bull owner.

The bill creates penalties for violation of these provisions.
