HB 1798 -- Compensation for Sheriffs and Deputy Sheriffs

This bill establishes the minimum compensation for deputy
sheriffs at $26,000 per year and creates the Public Safety
Enhancement Fund which will be funded by an additional $20 fee
charged for a sheriff's service of a summons, writ, or court
order in civil cases.  Ten percent of the moneys in the fund will
be dedicated to the Sheriffs' Retirement Fund, and the remaining
moneys will first be allocated to the counties on a per-capita
basis to cover the increased compensation of deputy sheriffs and
then to the MoSMART Fund.
