Summary of the Introduced Bill

HB 1840 -- Precious Doe Hotline

Sponsor: Brown (50)

This bill creates the Precious Doe Hotline to be operated and
maintained by the Department of Public Safety. The hotline will
operate at all times and be capable of receiving and maintaining
reports regarding the disappearance of children under suspicious
circumstances. The bill also requires certain professionals that
are engaged in the examination, care, treatment, or research of
persons or with responsibility for the care of children to
immediately report to the Department of Public Safety if they
have reasonable cause to suspect that a child has disappeared or
is the subject of suspicious circumstances affecting the health,
safety, and well-being of the child. Any person making a report
who is not a mandated reporter will receive a monetary award
depending on the outcome of the child's case. The Precious Doe
Hotline Reward Fund is created, and moneys in the fund will be
used solely for providing these rewards.
