Summary of the Introduced Bill

HB 1871 -- Parents, Tutors, and Volunteers Program

This bill requires the Department of Elementary and Secondary
Education to establish the Parents, Tutors, and Volunteers (PTV)
Program to encourage adults to volunteer in schools.  Any adult
who volunteers at a school will obtain up to $1,000 to be
credited to his or her tuition over a two-year period to a public
institution of higher education at which the volunteer is
enrolled.  Tuition for three credit hours will be granted for
each 100-volunteer hours as verified by the school district.
Funds for the program are paid directly to the institution and
include federal moneys available under the No Child Left Behind
Act and any state funds appropriated for the purpose.
