AN ACT

To amend chapter 79, RSMo, by adding thereto one new section relating to elective officers in certain cities of the fourth classification.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the state of Missouri, as follows:

Section A. Chapter 79, RSMo, is amended by adding thereto one new section, to be known as section 79.051, to read as follows:

79.051. Notwithstanding other provisions of this chapter to the contrary, in any city of the fourth classification with seven hundred or fewer inhabitants, the board of aldermen may provide by ordinance that any wards created under section 79.060, shall be dissolved and that the board shall consist of five members elected by the registered voters of the city at large. At such election, the five persons receiving the highest number of votes shall serve a term of two years and shall hold office until a successor is elected and qualified. The ordinance may provide for staggered terms for all members initially elected under this section, and may also provide for four-year terms under section 79.050.
