AN ACT

To amend chapter 209, RSMo, by adding thereto one new section relating to real-time captioning of local broadcasts.




Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the state of Missouri, as follows:


            Section A. Chapter 209, RSMo, is amended by adding thereto one new section, to be known as section 209.346, to read as follows:

            209.346. 1. Beginning January 1, 2007, all television stations located in this state with gross revenues in excess of three million dollars per year shall provide real-time captioning of all local news, weather, and sports broadcasts for deaf and hearing-impaired persons. The use of electronic newsroom technology shall not satisfy the requirements of this section.

            2. Each television station required to provide real-time captioning under this section may limit its expenditures for such captioning to two percent of its annual gross revenues.
