JOINT RESOLUTION

Submitting to the qualified voters of Missouri an amendment repealing section 20 of article V of the Constitution of Missouri, and adopting one new section in lieu thereof relating to judges.




Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring therein:


            That at the next general election to be held in the state of Missouri, on Tuesday next following the first Monday in November, 2006, or at a special election to be called by the governor for that purpose, there is hereby submitted to the qualified voters of this state, for adoption or rejection, the following amendment to article V of the Constitution of the state of Missouri:

            Section A. Section 20, article V, Constitution of Missouri, is repealed and one new section adopted in lieu thereof, to be known as section 20, to read as follows:

            Section 20. All judges shall receive as salary the total amount of their present compensation until otherwise provided by law, but no judge's salary shall be diminished during his term of office. No judge shall receive any other or additional compensation for any public service; provided, however, that a judge may receive compensation additional to his or her salary for teaching or lecturing at any public college or university in this state. No supreme, appellate, circuit or associate circuit judge shall practice law or do law business. Judges may receive reasonable traveling and other expenses allowed by law.
