Current Bill Summary

SCS/SB 393 - This act establishes a consolidation process for fire protection districts located wholly in counties of the first classification upon approval by the voters of a joint resolution within the fire protection districts. The joint resolution shall not become effective unless authorized by the voters of each board. The board of directors of a consolidated fire protection district shall have six members and consist of the existing board members until a vacancy occurs and the number of members may be reduced to five. The consolidated district shall levy the same taxes as levied in the district with the lowest tax levy before consolidation.

This act is similar to a provision of CCS/HCS/SS/SCS/SB 22 (2007) & SS/SCS/HB 69 (2007).
