HB 596 -- ANNUAL BID BONDS FOR HIGHWAY CONSTRUCTION AND
MAINTENANCE PROJECTS

SPONSOR:  St. Onge

COMMITTEE ACTION:  Voted "do pass" by the Committee on
Transportation by a vote of 7 to 0.

This bill authorizes the Highways and Transportation Commission
to accept an annual bid bond for its construction and maintenance
projects.  The commission must prescribe the form and content of
the annual bid bond.

FISCAL NOTE:  No impact on state funds in FY 2008, FY 2009, and
FY 2010.

PROPONENTS:  Supporters say the bill will make it easier and more
efficient for contractors when bidding highway projects.

Testifying for the bill were Representative St. Onge; and
Department of Transportation.

OPPONENTS:  There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
