HB 680 -- OFFICIAL STATE GRASS SPONSOR: May COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee on Conservation and Natural Resources by a vote of 11 to 0. This bill designates Big Bluestem as the official state grass. FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds in FY 2008, FY 2009, and FY 2010. PROPONENTS: Supporters say that the Big Bluestem has been in Missouri for over 10,000 years. It is known as the signature grass of the prairie. The Big Bluestem is a part of Missouri's heritage, past, present, and future. Testifying for the bill were Representative May; Sage Freter; Gavin Lewis; and Department of Agriculture.
