Summary of the Introduced Bill

HB 1159 -- Fire Department Employee Residency Requirements

Sponsor: Portwood

This bill prohibits fire departments from requiring any employee
to reside within a fixed and legally recorded geographical area
of the fire department if the only public school district
available to the employee within that area is or has been
unaccredited or provisionally accredited in the last five years
of the employee's employment. Charter schools are not considered
public schools for the purpose of this prohibition. Subsequent
full accreditation of the public school does not change the
prohibition. For the purposes of this prohibition, "fire
department" is defined as any agency or organization that
provides fire suppression and related activities within a fixed
area.
