Summary of the Perfected Version of the Bill

HCS HB 74 -- RURAL EMPOWERMENT ZONES (Wilson, 119)

COMMITTEE OF ORIGIN:  Special Committee on Rural Community
Development

Currently, rural empowerment zones are only allowed to exist in
Hickory County, which has a population of 8,940 residents.  This
substitute allows these zones to exist in any county with 16,000
or fewer residents, which includes 50 counties.

FISCAL NOTE:  Estimated Cost on General Revenue Fund of $0 to
Unknown - could exceed $5,880,000 in FY 2008, FY 2009, and
FY 2010.  No impact on Other State Funds in FY 2008, FY 2009, and
FY 2010.
