HB 1311 -- WRITE-IN CANDIDATES SPONSOR: Hoskins COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Special Committee on Urban Education Reform by a vote of 7 to 0. This bill requires anyone filing a declaration of intent to be a write-in candidate for election to a municipal office to meet the requirements involving his or her qualifications for holding elective office, filing deadlines, the payment of city taxes and municipal fees, and the payment of state property and income taxes. FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds in FY 2009, FY 2010, and FY 2011. PROPONENTS: Supporters say that it is important that write-in candidates for municipal office meet all required qualifications, deadlines, and tax obligations.
