Summary of the Committee Version of the Bill

HB 1320 -- COMMUNITY IMPROVEMENT DISTRICTS

SPONSOR:  Brown (50)

COMMITTEE ACTION:  Voted "do pass by consent" by the Special
Committee on Urban Education Reform by a vote of 7 to 0.

This bill authorizes a community improvement district which is a
political subdivision to sponsor and operate a polytechnic
institute for science and technology within the city or county
that authorized the district.

FISCAL NOTE:  No impact on state funds in FY 2009, FY 2010, and
FY 2011.

PROPONENTS:  Supporters say that the bill will allow the
community development districts to sponsor and operate a
polytechnic institute for science and technology within the
district.   This will provide economic development, create new
jobs, and stimulate the economy in that district and region.

Testifying for the bill was Representative Brown (50).

OPPONENTS:  There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
