Summary of the Committee Version of the Bill

HB 1384 -- IDENTITY THEFT

SPONSOR:  Cox

COMMITTEE ACTION:  Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee on
Crime Prevention and Public Safety by a vote of 8 to 0.

This bill specifies that identity theft victims have the right to
contact the local law enforcement agency where they are domiciled
and have an incident report about the identity theft prepared and
filed.

FISCAL NOTE:  No impact on state funds in FY 2009, FY 2010, and
FY 2011.

PROPONENTS:  Supporters say that the bill clarifies that a person
may make a report of identity theft irrespective of whether or
not the criminal could be prosecuted in that jurisdiction.

Testifying for the bill were Representative Cox; Missouri Credit
Union Association; and Missouri Bankers Association.

OPPONENTS:  There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
