Summary of the Committee Version of the Bill

HB 1466 -- PROPERTY TAX STATEMENTS

SPONSOR: Nolte

COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Special
Committee on Government Affairs by a vote of 8 to 0.

Currently, property tax statements are required to be mailed to
all resident taxpayers at least 30 days before the delinquent
date. This bill changes the requirement to at least 45 days
before the delinquent date.

FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds in FY 2009, FY 2010, and
FY 2011.

PROPONENTS: Supporters say that people often felt they didn't
have enough time to budget for the tax, especially around the
Christmas holiday. The bill will give people more time to save
up and put aside the needed money.

Testifying for the bill was Representative Nolte.

OPPONENTS: Those who oppose the bill say that it will be
counterproductive if the bill doesn't also change the time frames
or deadlines for the other county officers involved in the
assessment and collection process.

Testifying against the bill was David Erwin, Missouri County
Collectors Association.
