HCS HB 1599 -- STATE LEGAL EXPENSE FUND

SPONSOR:  Jones, 89 (Sater)

COMMITTEE ACTION:  Voted "do pass" by the Special Committee on
General Laws by a vote of 6 to 0.

This substitute adds medical practitioners providing services to
students at a summer camp to the list of health care providers
for whom the State Legal Expense Fund is available for payment of
certain claims filed against a provider.

FISCAL NOTE:  No impact on state funds in FY 2009, FY 2010, and
FY 2011.

PROPONENTS:  Supporters say that having medical personnel
staffing school summer camps is very costly to insure against
liability.  The bill will help by allowing coverage by the State
Legal Expense Fund to pay for any claims rendered in court
against a summer camp.

Testifying for the bill were Representative Sater; and Cynthia
Teese.

OPPONENTS:  There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
