HB 1608 -- PRESERVATION OF COUNTY DOCUMENTS

SPONSOR:  Ervin

COMMITTEE ACTION:  Voted "do pass by consent" by the Special
Committee on Government Affairs by a vote of 8 to 0.

This bill authorizes counties to preserve electronic images of
original cancelled checks instead of the actual check.

FISCAL NOTE:  No impact on state funds in FY 2009, FY 2010, and
FY 2011.

PROPONENTS:  Supporters say that the bill updates county record
keeping by allowing an original document to be an electronic copy
of a cancelled paper check.  The bill alleviates storage space
concerns for local government entities.

Testifying for the bill was Representative Ervin.

OPPONENTS:  There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
