HB 1616 -- REAL ESTATE BROKERS SPONSOR: Ruzicka COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Special Committee on Professional Registration and Licensing by a vote of 8 to 0. Currently, certain persons, partnerships, associations, or corporations acting as owners, lessors, or lessees are allowed to perform activities of a real estate broker without a license if they are not engaged in the real estate business. This bill repeals the provision that requires that they are not engaged in the real estate business. FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds in FY 2009, FY 2010, and FY 2011. PROPONENTS: Supporters say that current law is somewhat confusing and possibly could prohibit home builders from selling their own homes. The bill will clarify the language and allow home builders to sell their property without a real estate license. Testifying for the bill were Representative Ruzicka; Missouri Association of Realtors; and Home Builders Association of Missouri. OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.Copyright (c) Missouri House of Representatives
