HB 1710 -- POLICE AND CIVILIAN EMPLOYEES' RETIREMENT SYSTEM OF KANSAS CITY SPONSOR: Flook COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Special Committee on Retirement by a vote of 7 to 0. This bill requires members of the Police Retirement System of Kansas City and the Civilian Employees' Retirement System of the Police Department of Kansas City to be in active service in order to be eligible for certain duty-related or nonduty-related disability retirement benefits. Duplicate language regarding supplemental benefits for the Police Retirement System of Kansas City, enacted in 2007, is repealed. FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds in FY 2009, FY 2010, and FY 2011. PROPONENTS: Supporters say that the bill will make it easier to determine whether or not a disability is related to a member's duty. Testifying for the bill were Representative Flook; and Jim Pyles, Police Retirement System of Kansas City and Civilian Employees' Retirement System of the Police Department of Kansas City.
