Summary of the Committee Version of the Bill

HB 1869 -- COMMUNITY COLLEGES

SPONSOR:  Wilson (130)

COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee on
Higher Education by a vote of 7 to 0.

This bill requires the Missouri Revisor of Statutes to change all
references of the term "junior college" to "community college" in
the Revised Statutes of Missouri.

FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds in FY 2009, FY 2010, and
FY 2011.

PROPONENTS: Supporters say that junior colleges are no longer
junior partners in education. All community colleges use the
term "community," but the statutes have not been changed.

Testifying for the bill were Representative Wilson (130);
Missouri Community College Association; and Steve Cookson, Three
Rivers Community College Board of Trustees.

OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
