HCS HB 2064 -- PAIN TREATMENT ACT AND PHARMACISTS SPONSOR: Wasson (Parson) COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Special Committee on Professional Registration and Licensing by a vote of 9 to 0. This substitute renames the Intractable Pain Treatment Act to the Pain Treatment Act and removes the term "intractable pain" from its provisions. A pharmacy technician is allowed up to 30 days to renew his or her registration after the expiration date and authorizes the State Board of Pharmacy to issue a cease and desist order to stop a person from engaging or offering to engage in an unauthorized practice. A permit is not required for a licensed pharmacist to perform nondispensing activities outside of a pharmacy, subject to the rules established by the board. FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds in FY 2009, FY 2010, and FY 2011. PROPONENTS: Supporters say that the bill is needed to give the State Board of Pharmacy more authority in stopping the unauthorized practice of pharmacy. Testifying for the bill were Representative Wasson; and State Board of Pharmacy. OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.Copyright (c) Missouri House of Representatives
