HB 2202 -- CORRECTIONS OFFICER PAY PARAMETERS

COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass" by the Committee on
Corrections and Public Institutions by a vote of 7 to 0.
This bill authorizes the Personnel Advisory Board within the
Office of Administration to establish specific pay parameters for
certain custody personnel within the Department of Corrections in
order to maintain a stable work force. These pay parameters are
to be based on work hazards, years of service, and staffing
requirements.
FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds in FY 2009, FY 2010, and
FY 2011.
PROPONENTS: Supporters say that the bill will help curb turnover
by compensating corrections officers who perform hazardous
duties.
Testifying for the bill were Representative Deeken; and Missouri
Corrections Officers Association.
OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
